Celebrity Fashion Special

Celebrity fashion. Why are we so fascinated by the subject? Whether we admit it or not, there’s no denying the fact that we like to see how famous people dress. As the summer movie season gets in to full gear, it’s as great a time as any to look at one of most-requested topics I get: celebrity fashion.

Victoria Beckham
She may bling for Britain and have a fabulous figure, said to be thanks to David’s super-size salary, but Victoria Beckham will never be a fashion queen. Exhibit A is this improbable Cavalli dress, worn to the “Swarovski Fashion Rocks” evening for the Prince’s Trust at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Case closed, but can you imagine anyone else pulling it off, plastic fantastic or otherwise?

Britney Spears
Poor Britney! Pregnancy wasn’t kind to her, add to that a wayward husband, the paparazzi waiting round the corner of every branch of Starbucks, closely-scrutinised skin, weight problems and a career on standby, it’s no wonder that she’s let her style slide. “Trackies a go-go” is not a good look, especially for a teen idol, so come on Britney, you can do better than that!

Celine Dion
She may have one of the most beautiful voices in the world, a considerable fortune and a formidable shoe collection, but Celine Dion draws a blank when it comes to style. Designer clothes do not necessarily a beautiful outfit make, she lacks the natural “je ne sais quoi” which turns clothes into style. Her heart will undoubtedly go on, however…

Amira Casar
By teaming up with high-profile brands like Balenciaga and Chanel, Sylvia star Amira Casar should be an icon of contemporary style. Unfortunately, the British-born beauty often pairs cuts and colours which do nothing for her. However toned you are, a belly-baring sheer black top, turned-up shorts and check shirt are never going to look sexy! Stick to elegance, many a starlet has burnt her wings trying to go for too many trends at once.

Elisabeth Hurley
A permanet fixture on the London party circuit, Elisabeth Hurley suffers from too-sexy syndrome. Never afraid to flash the flesh, her career has suffered for it, despite that Versace dress being her catalyst for fame in the first place. Despite a contract with a sleek and stylish brand like Lancel, her jet-setting look is getting a little tired and with regular jibes in the press about younger stars like Sienna Miller, we wonder if Miss Hurley is finding things difficult as she enters her forties. With white jeans and fur as her self-confessed style staples, it could be time for a major image overhaul. Fashion pal Mr Ford should be able to help ger her career back on track.

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johanson shot to fame in “The Girl With a Peal Earring”, and hasn’t been out of the fashion magazines since. Her youthful elegance and hourglass figure have turned the heads of fashion designers and film directors, not least for her modern day Hollywood glamour. With a high-profile relationship with the delectable Josh Hartnett, she can’t put a foot wrong.

Penelope Cruz
Madrid-born Penelope Cruz is drawn to neutral colours and clean lines. Never the fashion victim, she knows how to play up her good points and has developed a look which has helped her build her Hollywood career. At boyfriend Matthew McConnaughey’s side Penelope cuts a stylish figure turning heads at LA parties, which is no mean feat!

Madonna
Madonna and ’style’ have always gone together. Worlds away from her “Like a Virgin”-era lace and crucifixes, the material girl has worked hard to maintain her place at the top of the music, celebrity and fashion worlds. In her latest incarnation, the dance music queen has reinvented herself as a disco diva in homage to the retro seventies influences on “Confessions on a Dancefloor”. Equally as comfortable in old-school Adidas as haute couture furs, whether she does chic or shock she’ll always remain a style favourite.
